Principal's Message

Principal Mario Guillen

Dear Miguel Carrillo Elementary Community,

It is with great excitement and gratitude that I introduce myself as the new principal of Miguel Carrillo Elementary. I am truly honored to join this incredible school community and to serve our students, families, and staff.

I was born and raised in the Alazán Apache Courts and am a proud graduate of Sidney Lanier High School. Growing up in this community has shaped who I am as both a person and an educator, and it is especially meaningful for me to serve a school that reflects the strength, resilience, and culture of our families.

I am also an Air Force Veteran and proudly served our country during Operation Desert Storm. My military service instilled in me the values of leadership, discipline, teamwork, and service—principles that continue to guide my work in education and my commitment to students and families.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working in Edgewood ISD, San Antonio ISD, and North East ISD. I have served as both a bilingual educator and a principal, experiences that have reinforced my deep commitment to equity, high expectations, and meeting the diverse needs of all learners. I strongly believe in the power of bilingual education, strong relationships, and collaboration between school and home.

Miguel Carrillo Elementary has a proud tradition of excellence and community, and I am excited to build on the great work already taking place. My goal is to ensure that every student feels safe, valued, challenged, and supported, and that families feel welcomed as true partners in their child’s education.
